There is absolutely no denying the fact that Kevin Durant has had one of the most decorated careers of any player in the History of our beautiful game. He has nothing left to prove to anyone, and yet here he is, heading into year 18 of his career, working harder than ever. Insanity.
Arguably the best scorer our game has ever seen, and somehow he continues to improve. He has every shot in the game, and he has single handedly redefined what it means to be a “Big Guard”. He has revolutionized the sport with his ability to shoot, dribble, and pass as a virtual 7 footer, and every tall hooper who has skill has been unsuccessfully compared to him over the course of the last decade.
Working on his craft has become an obsession for KD.
“If you want to get better at basketball, you have to become obsessed with being better every day”.
On another occasion, while talking to the legend Steve Nash, Kevin Durant said “If I take a day off, it feels like I’m getting worse.”
These are statements from a man who is obsessed with the process, which is how he became the legend that he is.
Durant has gone viral for his work ethic and this Summer there have been multiple clips that have circulated of KD in the gym working on his craft. We have seen first hand that people can’t get enough of watching Kevin Durant perfect his game the way that Michelangelo sculpted David, it’s a thing of complete beauty to watch.
Having accomplished everything he has both on winning teams and individually, the question that most are wondering is “Why keep pushing?”
Durant was asked this question during the Rockets’ media day and this was the prophetic response he gave:
“I enjoy the process of perfecting the craft…I enjoy competing against myself everyday and being better than I was the day before…That’s fun to me. I think as you get older you dive into the details of everything in your life. When you become detail oriented..become nerdy…it’s kind of fun to be in that mold. That’s my peaceful place when I am trying to perfect my craft”
Durant recently announced that he would be looking to sign an extension with The Rockets and he has not ruled out attempting to play in the Olympics again which would make him over 40 years old at that time.
Love him or hate him, you have to respect him. He is truly one of the hardest workers and best players we have ever seen and we need to cherish our time we have to watch him hoop.
