Luka Dončić’s Exciting Start to the 2025-26 NBA Season

by | Nov 3, 2025

Strong Start

Luka Dončić started the 2025-26 season with explosive games, as he continues to establish himself as a top-tier player in the NBA. As a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dončić played a massive part in getting the season off to a successful start with his high-level scoring, rebounding, and passing numbers. Fans and analysts alike have been impressed with the level of skill, versatility, and clutch play-making displayed by Dončić. Through the first month or so of the season, Dončić has produced multiple games of at least 40 points, while also shooting at a high rate (58.4 percent) through 10 games in October 2025, averaging 45.3 ppg.

Besides his high scoring average, Dončić has also averaged 11.7 rpg and 7.7 apg through the opening stretch of the season, which shows how impactful he is to the Lakers beyond his scoring. His shooting percentages include 35.1% from 3 pt., and 78.8% from the free throw line. This is indicative of Dončić being efficient from the field in all areas of the game.

Game highlights include:

• A 128-110 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 24th, where Dončić scored 49 pts., pulled down 11 boards, and handed out 8 assists.

• A 120-115 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 31st, where Dončić scored 44 pts., pulled down 12 boards, and handed out 6 assists in 39 min.

• An opening night loss to the Phoenix Suns, where he still scored 43 pts. With 12 boards and 9 assists.

He is currently ranked among the top five scorers in the NBA, and he became the fourth player in NBA history to begin a season with consecutive 40+ point games. These achievements show the outstanding talent and consistency of Dončić.

Resiliency in the Face of Injury

Although Dončić was injured with a left index finger sprain and a lower left leg contusion, which kept him out for 3 games, he returned and led the Lakers to a 124-114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Cup 2025 West Group B opener. After missing 3 games, Dončić was able to regain his scoring touch immediately and demonstrated his toughness and dedication to the team.

With Dončić out, the Lakers were able to go 2-1, thanks in large part to Austin Reaves, who stepped up big time. With Dončić returning, however, the team’s offense is clearly much more potent, and their chances for a championship this season are certainly improved. Coach JJ Redick feels Dončić is crucial to the Lakers’ success as they navigate a demanding Western Conference schedule.

Leadership and Playmaking

While many have praised Dončić’s individual production, his playmaking and leadership skills are equally crucial to the Lakers. His ability to get his teammates involved, as evidenced by his 7.7 apg, has allowed the Lakers to get better offense and ultimately has increased the team’s overall performance. His rebounding numbers (11.7 rpg) have shown his willingness to put forth extra effort and be a multi-dimensional player. He is allowing the Lakers to possess the ball and move it in transition effectively.

Dončić’s leadership abilities extend beyond the box score. He possesses the ability to remain calm and composed in crunch-time situations and has consistently shown the ability to deliver when it counts. These traits are similar to those of the all-time greats and have set the bar high for both Dončić and the Lakers for the rest of the season and potentially beyond.

The Rest of the Season

As we continue through the season, everyone will be watching Luka Dončić to see if he can continue to display this type of dominance and lead the Lakers into the second half of the season and into the playoffs. He has set the bar very high for himself and the rest of the team, and the potential is there for the Lakers to become a dominant team in the league this year. Many fans and analysts believe that Dončić could be a serious candidate for Most Valuable Player in the league, based on his ability to affect every area of the game. The Lakers appear well-positioned to be in the mix for the NBA title with Dončić as the driving force behind them and a solid core of supporting players.

Dončić has made a tremendous statement to the basketball world with his early-season performances. His historical scoring bursts, combined with his leadership on the court and his commitment to his teammates and team, have given him the spotlight as the best player on the Los Angeles Lakers, and he is more than ready to take on that challenge.
